The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating a deadly crash that occurred late Sunday night in North Bergen.
According to a preliminary investigation, a North Bergen police officer in a marked patrol vehicle was following a civilian vehicle when the crash occurred.
At approximately 11:18 p.m. on September 28, that vehicle collided with another, uninvolved civilian car along Tonnelle Avenue between 50th and 51st streets.
Both drivers involved in the collision sustained serious injuries and were later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released their identities at this time.
The Attorney General’s Office confirmed the matter is under review by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, which is tasked with investigating incidents involving law enforcement.
Officials said no further details are available as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
