Police in Newark were notified of an attempted carjacking that occurred in the city's upper West Ward on Saturday.
Authorities were called to the vicinity of 57 Putnam Street after learning of a carjacking in progress around 6:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, the victim told police that a male suspect had produced a gun and attempted to steal their vehicle.
The victim managed to get away from the armed assailant, and the suspect was last observed fleeing the area towards Maplewood.
There were no physical injuries, and the suspect remains at large.
