Atlantic County Prosecutors Office Swears in Four Widener Law School Grads as Assistant Prosecutors

On Thursday, September 9, four Widener University Delaware Law School graduates were sworn in as Assistant Prosecutors at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced.

Paige Cramer, Alyssa Gilboy, Jessica Marie O’Hearn and Shelby Scheffler were sworn in as ACPO Assistant Prosecutors on Thursday morning by the Honorable Bernard Delury, Jr. P.J. Cr before Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill and Atlantic County Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor Mario Formica.

“The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office welcomes our four new assistant prosecutors who have roots in our south Jersey communities," Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill said. 

"Assistant Prosecutors Paige Cramer, Alyssa Gilboy, Jessica Marie O’Hearn and Shelby Scheffler all graduated from Widener University Delaware Law School and then chose to return to southern New Jersey to serve Atlantic County as prosecutors.  I look forward to seeing the work that each of them will complete for ACPO and the Atlantic County community as assistant prosecutors.”

Assistant Prosecutor Paige Cramer is a native of Atlantic County and a 2008 graduate of Atlantic City High School. In 2012, AP Cramer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education with a minor in sociology from Arcadia University. 

AP Cramer earned her J.D. from Widener University Delaware Law School in 2019. She clerked for the Honorable James P. Savio, J.S.C. from 2019-2020. AP Cramer also worked at Goldenberg, Mackler, Sayegh, and Mintz Law for nearly 13 years.

“I was inspired by my grandparents, Norman and Dena DeYoung. They were both teachers and raised my siblings and me. They stressed the importance of education and provided us with every educational opportunity,” AP Cramer said.

Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa Gilboy of Marlton, New Jersey, is a 2013 graduate of Cherokee High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, philosophy and economics in 2017 from McDaniel College. 

AP Gilboy studied abroad in London, England, and would then receive her JD from Widener University Delaware Law School in 2020. AP Gilboy clerked for Judge Guy P. Ryan, J.S.C., Ocean County.

“The person who inspired me to become a prosecutor is my grandfather. I grew up watching him as a criminal defense attorney and municipal prosecutor,” AP Gilboy said.

Assistant Prosecutor Jessica Marie O’Hearn is a lifelong resident of Marlton, New Jersey, and a 2013 graduate of Cherokee High School. AP O’ Hearn received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University-Camden in English with a Minor in Criminal Justice in May 2017 and was a member of the Athenaeum Honor Society. 

AP O’Hearn received her JD from Widener University Delaware Law School in May 2020 and was the recipient of the Dean’s Merit Scholarship. She served as a Research Assistant to Dean Rodney A. Smolla from January 2019 to May 2020 and focused on areas of Constitutional Law. 

AP O’Hearn was a Women’s Law Caucus member and served as President from May 2019-May 2020.

AP O’Hearn served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Thomas J. Shusted, Jr., J.S.C. in the Criminal Division, 2020-2021 term.

“My mom, who has been an attorney for 28 years and practices civil litigation (labor/employment), is my inspiration,” AP O’Hearn said.

Assistant Prosecutor Shelby Scheffler is an Atlantic county native and 2013 graduate of Mainland Regional High School. 

AP Scheffler graduated from Temple University in 2017, where she majored in Criminal Justice and minored in Political Science. 

AP Scheffler would then graduate from Widener University Delaware Law School in 2020, where she was on the Law Review. She clerked for the Hon. Benjamin Podolnick from 2020-2021 in the Atlantic County Superior Court Family Division.

“I am inspired by my dad Steven Scheffler who is a dedicated trial lawyer who has practiced law, including criminal law, for 27 years,” AP Scheffler said.
