On January 28, 2026, an Atlantic County jury found Jamar Jones, 37, of Philadelphia, guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree possession of a handgun without a permit.

Following the jury verdict, Superior Court Judge Pamela D’Arcy, P.J. Cr., also found Jones guilty of second-degree certain persons not to possess weapons.

The convictions stem from a shooting that occurred on November 7, 2023, in the area of 26 South Florida Avenue in Atlantic City.

Police responding to the scene located the victim, identified as L.R.R., suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was pronounced deceased, and an autopsy later determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators determined that the victim and Jones had been involved in a physical altercation approximately 43 minutes before the shooting.

Authorities said both the earlier fight and the shooting itself were captured on surveillance video.

Additional video evidence reviewed by law enforcement showed Jones purchasing a mask at a nearby convenience store shortly before the shooting and later returning to the area where the homicide occurred.

Jones was formally charged in connection with the killing on December 11, 2023, at which time authorities determined he had fled and was considered a fugitive.

On February 20, 2024, members of the Atlantic City Police Department SWAT team located and arrested Jones at an apartment building on North Martin Luther King Boulevard. Police said Jones attempted to evade arrest by jumping from a third-floor window. He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the fall.
