MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic County jury found Joseph McCoy guilty today in the shooting death of an Atlantic City woman that occurred on Dec. 20, 2016, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.
Officials say McCoy, 45, was found guilty of the following charges:
Count 1 – Murder
Count 2 – Unlawful Possession of a Handgun
Count 3 – Possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Jacqueline Hoyle. She had her whole life ahead of her, but it was cut short by a jealous, callous killer. While we are optimistic that the defendant will spend the remainder of his pathetic existence behind bars, Ms. Hoyle’s loved ones will be left with the legacy of her friendship. Her absence is the scar that remains as a result of domestic violence,” Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.
Officials said in a press release that starting on Dec. 20, 2016, an intensive 2-day investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department led to the issuance of a warrant complaint for murder and weapons possession charges against McCoy of 326 North Tennessee Avenue, Apartment 3, Atlantic City.
Officials say Atlantic City Police responded on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 4:22 a.m., to 326 North Tennessee Avenue, Apartment 3, Atlantic City, NJ, for a report that a woman had been found dead inside the home.
Atlantic City EMS, AtlanticCare paramedics, and detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit also responded.
Upon arrival, police found Jacqueline Hoyle, 23-years-old, of the same address, dead of an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel according to officials.!
An autopsy performed on Thursday, December 22, 2016, by the New Jersey Southern Regional Medical Examiner Office determined the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound, and the manner of death: homicide.
This case was a cooperative investigation between the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department. Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Robinson represents the state.
