Atlantic City Man Sentenced for Unlawful Handgun Possession

Atlantic County authorities announced that on Thursday, July 13, John Stevens, 21, from Atlantic City, was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison where he must serve three and one-half years before being eligible for parole.

According to officials, the sentence is to run concurrent to a three- and one-half-year sentence he received in March of this year, also for unlawfully possessing a handgun. Officials say on January 10, Stevens and a co-defendant, Carlos Garcia-Perez, were stopped in the area of 1500 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City by plainclothes detectives from the Atlantic City Police Department.

Both men were found to be in possession of a concealed handgun on their respective persons.

Stevens did not possess a permit for the firearm, which was determined to be a 9mm Taurus G2C handgun.

Garcia-Perez’s case is still pending.
