Atlantic City Babysitter Charged Following 1-Year-Old Boy’s Life Threatening Injuries

Atlantic City

An Atlantic City woman has been charged in connection to the assault of a one year-old boy that was in her care, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Authorities charged Lisa Henderson, 55, with Aggravated Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Officials said that on November 30, 2017, the Atlantic City Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation after a one year-old boy with a significant head injury was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division and later transferred to Cooper University Hospital.

Police determined that the child - injured while at the residence of Henderson who was the child’s babysitter - suffered from a brain bleed that required emergency medical treatment.

According to authorities, Henderson who was operating an unlicensed daycare facility out of her residence, was the only adult watching several young children on November 30, 2017. Henderson claimed that the child fell from a bed, which measured approximately 23 inches high, and the fall caused him to have a seizure and lose consciousness.

Medical reports indicate that the child had a fracture of his right coronal suture, a large subdural hematoma, a cervical spine injury and retinal hemorrhages, which was classified as a near fatal injury.

Official stated that medical reports also indicated that a short household fall could not explain the injuries sustained by the child.

The child was ultimately released from the hospital.

Police said Henderson was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on March 6, 2018.

These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
