Police took a male into custody after an assault resulted in a foot pursuit in the city's Ironbound section Sunday evening.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to investigate reports of a robbery in progress that occurred in the vicinity of Van Buren and Market streets at approximately 5 10 p.m.
Essex County Sheriff's Officers arrived in the area and observed the suspect fleeing the scene then began a foot pursuit.
The suspect was captured a short distance away according to reports.
Police located the victim sufferign a facial injury and requested EMS to the location. Police say the suspect punched the victim in the face during the incident.
The incident remains under investigation.
