Authorities are on the scene of a brutal assault that took place in the city's North Ward early this morning.
Police were called to the area of Highland Ave. and Verona Avenue shortly before 6:30 a.m. for a person laying outside a house unconscious.
Upon arrival, police found the male victim reportedly partially clothed and seriously injured to the head. EMS performed CPR on the victim while en route to University Hospital.
An invetsigation is underway by the Newark Police Department.
