The Newark Fire Department’s Arson Unit has announced an investigation into a fire that erupted inside a Newark catholic school on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a preliminary investigation, firefighters received reports of smoke coming from the St. Francis Xavier School located in the 500 block of North 7th Street.
When crews arrived, they immediately located the blaze's seat in a weight room in the building's basement.
Firefighters were able to knock the fire down in under a half-hour with no injuries reported.
The official cause of the fire is under investigation.
