Arrest Made: Suspect Apprehended for Running Over Newark West Ward Senior Woman

In a significant development, Newark's Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé reported  on Thursday, August 25,  that police have successfully taken Ms. Nylissa Whetstone, a 19-year-old resident of Perth Amboy, into custody.

According to police, Whetstone is considered a suspect in a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian. 

This incident occurred on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the intersection of Sanford Avenue and South Orange Avenue.

The victim affected by this incident is an elderly woman who resides at a nearby senior citizen home.

Swift response by the officers led to the location of an adult female victim who had sought medical attention at University Hospital.

The woman’s condition has been reported as stable.

Police said Whetstone now faces charges of assault by auto, along with the offense of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

It is important to note that these charges are allegations at this stage.
