Police announced the arrest of a 53-year-old Fort Lee man who reportedly admitted striking a man in a wheelchair before leaving the scene.
According to police, Thomas J. Malatesta, 53, of Fort Lee, allegedly admitted that he was the one responsible" for hitting a 78-year-old man in a wheelchair as he attempted to cross Leonia street.
Malatesta was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and endangering an injured victim and
was issued motor vehicle summonses.
Malatesta was released pending a court hearing.
The victim remains in stable condition at Hackensack University Medical Center.
