Man Accused of Killing his Cousin in Jersey City

Officials say on Friday, Tavon Rush, 35, of Jersey City, was arrested without incident on Grant Avenue in Jersey City by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department in connection with the death of Darrell Rush on June 26, 2018.

Police charged Rush with Aggravated Manslaughter, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Police say Rush was also charged with Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon.

Rush is tentatively scheduled to make his first appearance tomorrow, June 30, 2018, in Criminal Justice Reform Court in the Hudson County Administration Building located at 595 Newark Avenue in Jersey City.

According to police, on June 26, at approximately 11:25 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of gunshots in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Bidwell Avenue in Jersey City. Upon arrival, responding Police Officers found a male victim in the street near 199 Bidwell Avenue.

The victim was later identified as Darrell Rush, age 31, of Jersey City. He was found in a lifeless condition with an apparent gunshot wound to his head.

Medical staff pronounced Rush dead at the scene at approximately 11:40 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has declared the Cause of Death to be a gunshot wound to the head and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.
