Authorities in Passaic County announced that Joshua Perez, a 38-year-old male from Paterson, has been charged in connection with the November 10, 2023, fatal shooting that occurred in the area of Park Avenue and Straight Street in Paterson.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes stated that Joshua Perez is charged with Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second degree.
According to Passaic County officials, on November 10, 2023, at approximately 12:44 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of Park Avenue and Straight Street in Paterson on a reported shooting.
Officers located the victim, a 33-year-old male from Paterson, with a gunshot wound, PCPO officials say.
Passaic County authorities said the victim was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Joshua Perez was the shooter, Passaic County officials stated.
PCPO officials said he was later located in Florida and extradited to New Jersey on September 2.

The State has filed a motion for pretrial detention against Joshua Perez, which will be heard by a Superior Court judge at a date and time to be determined by the court, Passaic County officials say.
