A violent armed robbery turned assault that happened in the city has police investigating.
Police responded to reports of an armed robbery that took place on Springfield Ave. and Blum Street shortly before 5 a.m. where they found the victim injured after being robbed at that location.
The victim reported that the suspect, who police described as a 5'10" black bald male wearing a grey hoodie and grey pants who was also armed with a gun, approached the victim where he then snatched a backpack and began to empty the contents onto the ground.
When the suspect reportedly couldn't find what he was looking for, he became physically aggressive and began to viciously beat the victim with the gun.
The suspect then fled the scene in a burgundy minivan.
The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
