Police set up a crime scene near University Hospital while investigating a shots-fired incident in the city's Central Ward Monday evening.
It happened near 110 Bergen Street around 6:55 p.m., where police said three vehicles arrived in the area and began to exchange gunfire near the regional medical center.
Rutgers University Police arrived at the scene and requested assistance from Newark Police to search for possible victims, but there weren't injuries reported.
The shooting incident caused heavy traffic in the area of South Orange Avenue and Bergen Street while police collected shell casings and other evidence.
The suspects sped away from the scene and remain at-large.
