Armed Suspect Robs Newark Bodega

Newark

Police in Newark are investigating an armed robbery of a grocery store that took place in the city this morning.

Authorities are looking for a 6ft tall black male with a Sunni beard who was last seen wearing all black when he reportedly walked into the establishment in the 60's block of 16th Avenue and committed the robbery.

Police caught up with the suspect and began a foot pursuit that ended in the vicinity of 360 South 6th Street where the suspect got away.

There were no physical injuries reported.

In a separate robbery that took place at around the same time, police were called to the 100 block of Avon Avenue for reports of an armed robbery that occurred at that location.

Authorities said, two suspects -wearing black clothing- armed with a gun exited a gold Maxima and committed the armed robbery before fleeing the scene eastbound on Avon Avenue.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
