Armed Suspect Points Gun, Robs Unattended Child Inside Car in Newark's Central Ward

Newark

Newark Police officials seek the public’s help in identifying a male suspect and vehicle wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred Saturday.

Police said in a statement, officers responded to the 200 block of 14th Avenue on a robbery call.

According to police, the driver of a car reportedly left a child unattended inside the vehicle when the suspect drove up and noticed the minor alone.

The suspect exited his car, pointed a handgun at the youth inside the vehicle, and demanded that the child unlock the door.

Police say the child complied and unlocked the vehicle but managed to run from the car before the suspect removed a green Polo duffle bag containing a large sum of cash.

The suspect reportedly sped from the scene, heading westbound on 14th Avenue.

Newark Police detectives said the suspect is described as male, 5'6"-5'8" tall with a thin build, dark complexion and wearing all black clothing.

The assailant's car is described as a 2-door, black Audi with five-spoke rims. The vehicle was reported stolen from Hamilton Township on August 17, 2021.

Director O’Hara urges anyone with information about this suspect to call the Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
