Newark Police are on the search for a suspect wanted for a violent aggravated assault on a woman in a section of the city's West Ward Saturday morning.
Police were notified of reports of an armed robbery in progress near the intersection of 16th Street and 15th Avenue around 5:17 a.m.
Several units arrived and notified EMS after finding the female victim suffering non-life threatening injuries at that location.
Authorities investigating the incident were informed that a male suspect armed with a gun ambushed the woman and then began to violently strike her with the gun at that location.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment while police reportedly began their search for an older model Lexus ES 350 believed connected with the assault.
No arrests have been reported.
