Armed Robbery Turned Assault Leads To Pursuit, Orange Police Apprehending Several Suspects

An armed robbery turned brutal assault that happened in Orange, sprung police into action early this morning. 

Police responded to an armed robbery report that occurred near the 100 block of South Center Street where the victim was reportedly robbed then beaten with a weapon shortly before midnight. Upon arrival to the scene, the victim was able to give authorities a good description of the suspects and vehicle the men were occupying. 

Heavy police canvassing and lockdowns of several streets had police locating the vehicle nearby where they immediately begin to follow.

The vehicle (occupied by several) reportedly begin to travel at a high rate of speed into East Orange where it collided into a vehicle then knocked down a utility pole at Harrison Street and Freeway Drive East. The impact also caused debris to be thrown onto the roadway, forcing a temporary closure. 

The vehicle sped off after the crash where it slammed into a pole on Evergreen and Freeway Drive East causing several occupants to jump from the car and attempt to make a getaway. 

Police chased several men a short distance, apprehending one suspect at the corner of Halsted Street and Halsted Place. At least two other suspects were apprehended in the area. 

Authorities reportedly recovered a weapon used in the robbery.
