Armed Robbery of Newark Pharmacy has Hillside, Newark Men Arrested

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Saleem Young, of Newark, and Jahfee Scott (left) of Hillside, both 23, for robbing a pharmacy yesterday (Thursday).

Police said shortly after 1 p.m., a passerby flagged down two police officers, advising them of two men riding bicycles, and one with a handgun, near Broadway and Delevan Avenue.

Police said they located the two men fitting the witness's description and observed Mr. Jahfee Scott with a gun when they immediately arrested him.

While conducting the arrest, the officers were advised of an armed robbery minutes earlier at Harris Pharmacy, located at 519 Broadway, by two suspects fitting the same description.

Scott and his accomplice, Mr. Saleem Young were both arrested after evidence revealed that they were suspects in the pharmacy robbery.

Police charged both men with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Conspiracy.

Police said Mr. Young also faces additional charges of Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief and Discharging a Weapon Within the City Limits.

These charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
