Newark Police seeks the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect wanted for an armed robbery that occurred today.
Police said in a statement, at approximately 1:35 a.m., the suspect displayed a handgun to an attendant and demanded money at Exxon Gas Station, located at 1443-1447 McCarter Highway.
Police say the suspect then went into the station’s Tiger Mart and pointed the handgun at the store’s clerk, demanding cash from the register.
The suspect fled on foot with over $400.00, heading towards 3rd Avenue and then onto Broadway.
Detectives are investigating this incident, captured surveillance footage of the suspect purchasing items in the gas station’s Tiger Mart yesterday at 6:30 p.m.
Police say he drove a 2003-2005 maroon-colored Buick Century with a temporary license plate.
