An armed robbery of a Newark West Ward business on Tuesday has police continuing their investigation.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the Dollar Tree Store located at 1111 South Orange Avenue just before 7:45 p.m. after they received information about a robbery in progress.
Fast responding Newark Police officers arrived at the scene and were informed by store employees that a black male suspect entered the establishment armed with a gun demanded money from the cashier.
The suspect took an unknown amount of proceeds before he ran from the store.
Police and detectives working the case checked store surveillance video then conducted an early morning search for the suspect at an address on Marion Avenue where they detained one person according to reports.
Authorities did not immediately confirm if the detained person is, in fact, the man who committed the robbery.
There were no physical injuries reported.
