Armed Man in Wheelchair Wanted for Firing Shots in Newark's Central Ward

Police in Newark are searching for a suspect wanted for firing shots in a section of the city's Central Ward on Tuesday evening. 

The evening hours of Newark were violent, with four individuals in the city suffered gunshot wounds.

At least one suffered fatal injuries in other areas of the city. The evening began with a suspect in a wheelchair firing shots at unknown targets in the vicinity of Norfolk and Hartford streets around 6:45 p.m.

NJIT police arrived at the scene and found several shell casings, but a neighborhood search indicated no victims. 

Witnesses said the suspect, who occupied a wheelchair, produced a gun and began firing in the area before swiftly rolling away from the scene. 

Police recovered several shell casings during their investigation. 

The motive for the shooting is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.
