Police requested assistance after an armed male reportedly resisted arrest during a brief struggle with officers at a location in the city's West Ward on Tuesday evening.
According to preliminary reports, community information sent to police from the Essex County Sheriff's Department had officers in the vicinity of 153 Isabella Avenue at approximately 6:15 p.m.
Police officers spotted a suspect that fit the description and began an investigation when the suspect reportedly refused to comply with officers.
The suspect was ultimately placed under arrest and police say they confiscated a weapon at that location.
Authorities have launched an investigation.
