Police in Newark are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred in Newark South Ward Thursday afternoon.
According to police, the incident happened in the vicinity of Girard and Hawthorne Avenue, where the armed suspect targeted the driver of a black BMW X5 shortly before 2:55 p.m.
Police say the suspect brandished a gun then sped off in the victim's vehicle.
Officers located the car and gave chase, But terminated the pursuit near East Orange, according to police.
Units did recover the unoccupied vehicle in the teens block of Halleck Street.
There were no injuries reported.
