Newark police are investigating an overnight armed carjacking that occurred in the city’s North Ward.
At approximately 11:35 p.m. Monday, officers responded to reports of a carjacking in progress near North 5th Street and Bloomfield Avenue.
Upon arrival, police met with the victim, who stated that a suspect displayed a handgun and stole their blue 2017 Chevy Equinox.
A citywide search was immediately launched, with officers canvassing several neighborhoods. A license plate reader later detected the vehicle near Orange and 1st Street.
Authorities eventually located the stolen SUV, but the suspects had already fled the scene and remain at large.
No physical injuries were reported during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
