Police in Newark are investigating a reported armed carjacking that occurred in the city's North Ward during the overnight hours.
According to preliminary reports, the incident happened in the vicinity of McCarter Highway and 3rd Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. where police say they received information about a possible carjacking in progress.
Upon their arrival at the scene, they began a search for a white 2015 Honda that was reportedly taken by a black male suspect at gunpoint.
The vehicle has a reported NJ license plate number "Y38-JYR" and was last observed heading northbound on McCarter Highway.
There were no physical injuries reported.
