Apparent Attempted Robbery Leaves Man Shot in Newark

An overnight shooting in Newark that injured a man has authorities searching for the suspect who is responsible.

Police were called to the 100 block of Roseville Avenue on reports of shots fired that rang out at around 2 a.m. where officers arrived to the scene to find a male victim bleeding from the face after suffering an apparent gunshot wound.

The alert an conscious victim reported to cops that the armed male suspect approached and demanded cash and personal possessions shortly before firing at least one round from the gun, striking the victim in the face.

The victim (who was reported to be in his early 30's) was rushed to University Hospital where he was only reported to be in stable condition as of 4:30 a.m.

Authorities are looking for a tall black male who was reportedly wearing dark clothing when he fled the area in an older modeled light colored minivan.

The shooting is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.
