Anonymous Tip Leads to Arrest of Man Armed with Gun in Newark

Newark authorities are reporting the arrest of Mr. Travis Fluker, 50, of Newark, for possession of a loaded handgun last night (Friday).

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at approximately 10:55 p.m., a concerned citizen phoned in a Crime Stoppers tip regarding a man with a gun.

Officers arriving to the scene located a man fitting the description of the suspect at Avon Avenue and Stratford Place Director Ambrose said.

Police allegedly observed the suspect, Travis Fluker, with the weapon shortly before officers moved in for the arrest.

Director Ambrose said his officers recovered a loaded .32 caliber handgun from Fluker.

Police charged Fluker with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession.

“I commend the concerned citizens who utilize our Crime Stoppers Tip Line to assist us in removing illegal guns from our streets,” Director Ambrose said. “I applaud this level of dedication from our residents. It’s a clear sign of their commitment to partnering with law enforcement to make Newark safer.”

These charges lodged against Mr. Fluker are mere accusations.

Mr. Fluker is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
