A city man, an alleged street gang member, was charged today on multiple drug and gun-related charges, authorities said.
Quavir Terry was arrested yesterday afternoon after the Essex County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Narcotics allegedly caught him selling heroin near on the 900 block of 18th Street in Newark to two men.
The men who were followed by police, where identified as Thomas Weiss, 48, of Irvington, and Franklin Santoro, 47, of Newark, were subsequently arrested.
Authorities allegedly seized 24 decks of heroin in Terry's pockets. A vehicle search allegedly turned up another 165 envelops of heroin and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
The total estimated street-value of the drugs was approximately $1900, police said.
Terry who was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and multiple counts of the sale, possession and intent to distribute narcotics was later remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility on a $195,000 cash bond.
Weiss was charged with possession of a controlled substance while Santoro was charged with wandering with the intent to purchase narcotics.
They were released in their own recognizance and will be arraigned at a later date.
