Authorities in Newark are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with a violent assault that left one person injured earlier this year.

According to a statement released by the Newark Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:14 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025, in the area of the 800 block of South 17th Street.
A man was reportedly approached by an unknown suspect who pulled out a pocket knife, grabbed the victim, and slashed his neck before calmly walking away from the scene.
The suspect was last seen heading westbound on Clinton Avenue, passing South 17th Street, officials said.
Detectives describe the suspect as either Black or Hispanic, with a full beard.
At the time of the attack, he was wearing a baseball cap, a black T-shirt with white lettering, khaki pants, black sneakers, and a black wristwatch.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
