ALERT: Suspect Sought for Stealing License Plates at Newark Tire Shop

Police officials n Newark request the public's help in identifying a suspect captured on surveillance video stealing the license plates from a vehicle at a retail tire service business on July 26.

 

Police said an employee of the business filed a report with the 3rd Precinct, telling officers that the front and back license plates to one of the vehicles were missing around 1 a.m. at Thomas Tire Sales Service in the 300 block of Thomas Street.

According to police, on surveillance video, a Black male suspect gets out of a white Ford Crown Victoria that is parked behind a vehicle at the tire business.

The suspect then removed the plates from the car and left in the Ford Crown Victoria.

The suspect appears to be a heavyset, light-skinned Black male or Hispanic male with dreads.

While detectives investigate this incident and seek the public’s help with identifying the suspect, Director O’Hara urges anyone with information about the individual to call the Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).

All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
