ALERT: Prisoner Escapes Police Custody at University Hospital in Newark UPDATE: Captured

Police in Newark are on the search for a prisoner who escaped custody at Univsrsity Hospital Sunday morning.

According to preliminary reports, Mr. Robert Godwin, 57, was taken into custody earlier today after a domestic incident at his home in the 100 block of South 11th Street.

He complained of a previous injury and was taken to the hospital just before 11:30 a.m. police said.

While at the hospital, Goodwin managed to escape the facility and was last seen wearing a blue shirt and light green cargo pants.

Police say Goodwin fled westbound on 13th Avenue -towards Littleton Avenue- and is known to frequent the 100 block of South 9th Street and the 300 block of South 11th Street.

He is 6’3” tall and weighs approximately 220 pounds with light brown complexion and brown eyes.

Police said Goodwin has missing front teeth.

Police say the suspect was transported to University Hospital after being arrested due to a complaint of an illness.
