An investigation is underway following an incident involving federal immigration authorities in Morris County that resulted in the discharge of a firearm, state officials announced.
In a statement, Jennifer Davenport said her office is actively reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Enforcement and Removal Operations earlier today in Roxbury Township.
Authorities confirmed that a weapon was discharged during the encounter.
No injuries have been reported.
According to the statement, local law enforcement secured the scene in coordination with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.
The matter is now being handled independently by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, which is responsible for reviewing certain law enforcement incidents across the state.
State officials said they are in communication with federal, state, county, and local law enforcement partners as the investigation continues.
