Police released the identity of the 87-year-old man killed after he attempted to cross Route 9 last night.
Officers responded to Route 9 just south of Shellbay Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, police found Howard Severance, who was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Severance was attempting to cross Route 9 southbound when he was struck by a vehicle. According to police, the driver remained at the scene.
There were no arrests or charges immediately reported as the investigation is continuing.
