The 7 Business Legacy Killers As Married Entrepreneurs

By: O.L. and Sway Buckley

Legacy-building has been the goal from as far back as we've known what it is to build a legacy. It's about making something larger than yourself that will positively impact others that come after you (notably family members, but not limited to them).

Success-Mapping Call

If you're a married business couple, you are undoubtedly legacy builders.

Whether just one spouse in the business or both spouses, you are building the same legacy together.

The marriedpreneur road is full of unpredictability, but it's worth the work if you stick with it!

Marriedpreneur Life Podcast

After over a decade of consulting countless marriedpreneur couples, we've realized many often unknowingly self-sabotage because they overlook critical components that, without them, you're path will be significantly more burdensome than necessary. Below are seven of the most common legacy killers.

  1. Criticize Capacity: Each husband and wife will have capacities to do things differently because they think differently- but when it's criticized, that's a problem.
  2. Downplay Different Perspectives: One of the most significant blows to emotionally trusting each other is when one spouse's perspective is downplayed because it's different. Hear each other out and offer support, even if you see it differently!
  3. Undermind Wealth Roles: When couples don't map out wealth roles based on gifts and graces, they set themselves up for unnecessary frustration! Get clear on yours and flourish.
  4. Bash Legacy Meetings: When we started with legacy meetings, it was like pulling teeth at first. Legacy meetings are different from other 'pointless' meetings. But they are unique because they hold you both accountable for your daily activities.
  5. Complicated Profit Magin: Simplicity scales, complexity fails. Keep your business model SIMPLE to grow with ease. It doesn't have to be complex to work.
  6. Absent Wellness Plan: When a couple doesn't have a wellness plan as a preventative measure, it will always be reactive, which is always harder to bounce back from.
  7. Belittle Marriedpreneur Vision: Get clear on your marriedpreneur vision; otherwise, the decisions you make for growth can't be strategic, but they will be emotional- which isn't a real strategy.
