68-Year-Old Woman Killed in Washington Township House Fire

A 68-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries in a house fire Tuesday at her home located at 1759 Congress Drive.

Authorities said Ms. Carol Nicosia was pronounced dead at Cooper Medical Center, Camden at 7:49 p.m. after neighbors removed her from the house when they saw smoke billowing from the residence.

Fire officials said Nicosia was the only person in the house during the fast-moving fire

According to officials, the fire, which appeared accidental, was reported at 4 p.m. where firefighters arrived and brought the blaze under control in about an hour.

The official cause is under investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office, and Washington Township fire officials.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner's Office.
