A tragic accident in downtown Jersey City on Friday afternoon claimed the life of a six-year-old child who was struck by a vehicle while crossing a busy intersection, according to information released by Jersey City police officials.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 3:53 p.m. near the intersection of Jersey Avenue and 6th Street. Responding officers found the young victim with critical injuries.
Despite emergency efforts, the child was pronounced dead just ten minutes later, at around 4:03 p.m.
Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione confirmed the child’s age and said the driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation.
A crash investigation unit responded shortly after the incident.
As of now, no charges have been filed, and the investigation remains active.
