4-Alarm Fire Destroys Kearny House

Firefighters in Kearny battled a four-alarm fire that tore through a multi-family building in the city this morning.

Fire broke out inside an apartment at 238 Maple Street at around 7 a.m. sending firefighters to the scene where they arrived to find fire ripping through the second floor of the three-story triplex building upon their arrival.

Crews closed off a portion of Kearny Avenue as firefighters fought the blaze from the exterior while setting up collapse zones as the fire intensified causing the structure to weaken.

A search for the structure for trapped or injured occupants came back negative. There are about a dozen residents displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

**UPDATED 9 a.m.:** The Domingos Bakery in town has offered to provide affected residents and emergency responders warm drinks and food at their bakery located at 292 Kearny Avenue.
