3-Alarm Paterson Building Fire Under Investigation

Paterson Firefighters battled a raging multi-alarm fire that damaged several apartments of a building in the city on Sunday morning.

According to preliminary reports, the three-alarm fire broke out inside a large brick apartment building located at 120 Ward Street in Paterson at round 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

Heavy flames were showing from a third-floor apartment as firefighters arrived according to fire officials.

Dozens of residents were evacuated to the nearby YMCA and PSE&G building -across the street- to stay warm while firefighters battled the blaze that originated inside an apartment according to fire officials.

Firefighters were able to contain the flames primarily to the third floor, but smoke and water damage occurred on all floors as well as firefighters cutting the roof to vent out smoke.

There were no initial reports of injuries. The fire was placed under control in about one hour with the cause under investigation.
