29-Year-Old Man Shot Dead in Newark's West Ward

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting incident in which a male was fatally shot last night in Newark, NJ.

Authorities said at approximately 7:50 p.m., Newark police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Kenmore Ave on a report of a shooting.

Responding officers observed a male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds outside of a residence.

The victim, who has been identified as DeShawn Judson, age 29, of Newark, was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:34 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

Authorities said the incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.

The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
