As Newark residents wake up on this Saturday morning, the city finds itself blanketed in warmth, humidity, and the lingering energy of last night’s kickoff of the iconic 24 Hours of Peace anti-violence concert.

At 4:45 a.m., temperatures hovered around 73 degrees at the heart of the event on Central Avenue and South 10th Street, where the city’s community members, performers, and local leaders have come together for a full day of music, unity, and peace-building.

But while the spirit remains high, the weather is taking a turn.

According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog will lift early, leaving behind partly sunny skies that will help temperatures climb to near 90 degrees.

Humidity will be high throughout the day, creating a sticky atmosphere for festival-goers. Those planning to stay for the duration are encouraged to hydrate and find shade when possible.

Forecasters warn that scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the region by mid-to-late afternoon, around 2:30 p.m. Winds may also pick up, gusting as high as 25 mph.

Saturday Forecast Summary:

High: Near 81-90°F

Winds: Southeast 9 to 14 mph, gusts up to 25 mph

Rain: Likely after 2:30 p.m.

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm will continue into the early morning hours, with patchy fog returning after 2 a.m. Expect a low of around 66 degrees.

Despite the approaching weather, the 24 Hours of Peace festival, now in its 15th year, remains a beacon of hope and nonviolence in the city.

Rain or shine, Newark is showing up for peace.
