In 24-Hours, Armed Men Rob Victims in Every Ward in Newark

Newark Irvington Township

Police in Newark and Irvington Township stepped up patrols in their municipalities after a spree of robberies targeted over a half dozen victims in Newark.

The overnight robberies had authorities put out an alert for two black male suspects, who occupied a blue minivan, and both possessed guns during multiple robberies that touched off in every ward in Newark and at least one section in Irvington shortly before 1 a.m. according to reports.

According to preliminary reports, Newark Police met Irvington authorities in the area of South 15th Street and Springfield Avenue after four people reported that masked men created panic and terror after they bailed out of a minivan then drew guns while verbally shouting demands to hand over cash and personal possessions or risk physical bodily violence if the victims did not comply with their orders.

According to reports, during that time, authorities learned that the suspects were responsible for at least four other robberies that stretched the city limits of Newark and parts of Irvington Township.

Newark Police are also looking into an early Monday morning armed robbery that occurred in the city's South Ward where officers were called to the 300 block of Lyons Avenue to investigate a report of an armed robbery just before 12:30 a.m.

Upon officers arrival, they learned from the victim that two male armed suspects wearing masks exited a gold-colored vehicle -possibly an Infinity- and demanded cash and personal possessions.

According to reports, the suspects took the victims iPhone and Play Station 4 before they entered their vehicle and sped away from the scene. Police believed that the same men are wanted for an attempted robbery of a woman that occurred on Sunday night at around 11 p.m. while the woman walked in the area of 4th Avenue and North 7th Street.
