20-Year-Old Bound Brook Man Charged with New Brunswick Murder

​Authorities in Middlesex County are reporting that a Bound Brook man has been charged and arrested for the murder of Mr. Jose Medero, 51, of New Brunswick.  

​According to a statement released by the prosecutor’s office, Mr. John Santanna, 20, of Bound Brook, was charged and arrested with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and second-degree possession of a gun for an illegal purpose.  

In the statement, police said on Saturday, February 27, at approximately 1:18 a.m., while on patrol, New Brunswick police officers located Medero, who had sustained a gunshot wound.

Police said Medero was pronounced dead at the scene.  

In an investigation by Detective Elfi Martinez and Detective Sean Sullivan of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, they determined Santanna shot Medero while the victim was seated in his vehicle area of Seaman Street and Remsen Avenue.

Authorities would not release the motive for the shooting.

Officials said Santanna is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.
