An 18-year-old Newark man was killed in a shooting near downtown Newark Monday night, authorities announced.
According to information released by Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, police responded to the 700 block of Broad Street near West Market Street at approximately 8:12 p.m. on October 5 following reports of a shooting.
Officers found Naim Brewer, 18, of Newark, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Brewer was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:14 p.m.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active and ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not released any additional information at this time.
