17th Annual Reading Festival Returns to Irvington

Irvington Township

The Irvington Family Development Center, the Irvington Public Library, the NJ Division of Child Protection and Permanency local office joined forces to prepare for the 17th Annual Reading Festival.

During the event, people from various careers come and read to the children of Irvington. As they are being inspired to read, they are also given a glimpse of various career opportunities.

Over the years some of the people that have attended includes Superior Court judges, Dr. Sampson Davis of “The Pact,” other physicians, a New Jersey Devils Player, an FBI Agent, a banker, an airline pilot, a chef, a police officer, a firefighter and other professionals read to the children.

The festival will take place in June at the Irvington Public Library from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The goal of this event remains the same. Encourage families to go to the library together, increase literacy, increase patron registration and circulation, and help the immigrant population improve their reading skills.
