16-year-old Newark Juvenile Arrested For Stealing Car Left Running

Police took a teenaged boy into custody after the boy stolen an unattended vehicle left running in Newark.

Police said today at approximately 3:11 p.m., a female victim at a gas station at Meeker and Frelinghuysen avenues, exited her white Buick with the vehicle still running.

A 16-year-old male suspect entered the vehicle and sped away from the scene.

The suspect lost control of the car and struck the fence of the 5th the Precinct on Bergen Street police said.

After hitting the fence, the suspect bailed from the vehicle but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

There were no serious injuries reported.
