16-Year-Old Boy Caught With Loaded Gun, Drugs in Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of a 16-year-old male arrested for possession of a loaded handgun and CDS this morning.

According to police, at approximately 12:15 a.m. police observed two juvenile males walking in the 500-block of South 17th Street.

Police say the juveniles were stopped by officers for being in violation of the City’s Juvenile Curfew Initiative, established to safeguard juveniles by ensuring that they remain under the supervision of a parent or guardian from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day.

One juvenile was found in possession of a loaded handgun and a bottle containing four Oxycodone pills according to police.

Police charged the boy with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (hollow point ammunition) and Possession of CDS (prescription legend drugs).

These charges are merely accusations.

This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
