UPDATE: Three Jersey City Police Officers Fired Their Guns that Struck Two Victims in Jersey City

According to a preliminary statement, on Monday, at approximately 10:15 p.m., three Jersey City Police Officers — a Lieutenant and two Police Officers — assigned to the Housing Unit were on patrol in the area of the Arlington Gardens Housing Complex.

Officials say during their patrol, an incident occurred which resulted in all three police officers discharging their weapons.

Preliminary indications suggest that fireworks were being shot in the area of this incident. The circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting remains under active investigation.

Police say, two individuals, a 19-year-old male and a 21-year-old male, were transported to Jersey City Medical Center where they received treatment for non-life threatening injuries sustained during this incident.

The New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice was immediately notified of the incident.

Pursuant to Attorney General guidelines, the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor has taken over the investigation from the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Shooting Response Team is in the early stages of the investigation.
